Beyond our private tours

What travellers ask about Kerala tours

How many days do I need for a Kerala holiday?

Five to seven days covers the essential Kerala experience: the hill stations of Munnar, the spice forests of Thekkady, the backwaters of Alleppey and the heritage of Kochi. Ten to twelve days allows for a more unhurried journey with time for cycling, birding or trekking. For European and international travellers, a minimum of seven days is recommended to justify the flight time.

What is the best time to visit Kerala?

October to March is the ideal window: the monsoon has cleared, temperatures are comfortable across all destinations, and the Western Ghats are vivid green. November to February is peak season and the most popular time for European visitors. April and May are warm but manageable in the hills. The monsoon runs June to September and some activities and roads can be affected.

Are Green Earth Trails tours private or group departures?

All standard programs are private: your own vehicle, your own driver, your own schedule. You will not share transport or accommodation with other groups. We also offer small fixed-departure group tours (4 to 6 guests) for travellers who prefer a structured group format. All programs are run by Green Earth Trails directly, not outsourced to third-party operators.

Can the itinerary be customised to my interests?

Yes, every program is a framework not a fixed product. We can adjust duration, swap or add destinations, integrate cycling, kayaking, birding or trekking, change accommodation categories, or build a longer South India journey. Share your interests when you enquire and we build from there.

How do I get to Kerala from Europe?

Kochi International Airport (COK) is the main entry point, with connections via Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and Singapore. Most European travellers connect through Gulf carriers: Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways and Air Arabia all serve Kochi. Flight time from the UK is approximately 10 to 11 hours with one stop. Trivandrum (TRV) is an alternative departure point for programs ending in the south.

What accommodation categories do you offer?

Programs are priced across four categories: Budget (3-star), Midrange (4-star with pool), Premium (4-star deluxe with in-house activities) and Luxury. All categories include daily breakfast. Houseboat programs are priced by vessel grade. We work with a curated selection of properties known to us personally, not a bulk booking system.

Is Kerala suitable for families travelling with children?

Yes, Kerala is one of the most family-friendly destinations in India. The houseboat experience is particularly popular with families. Eravikulam National Park, wildlife encounters at Thekkady, spice garden walks and beach time at Kovalam all work well for mixed-age groups. We tailor pace, activities and accommodation to suit families with children of any age.

What vehicles are used for transfers and sightseeing?

Green Earth Trails operates its own fleet: a Tata Winger Plus for larger groups, Kia Carens and Suzuki Ertigas for couples and small groups. All vehicles are air-conditioned with spacious luggage capacity. The same vehicle and driver accompanies you from arrival to departure, ensuring continuity throughout your journey.

Can't find exactly what you're looking for?

Every program can be customised: different duration, different destinations, different pace. Tell us how you want to travel and we will build it around you.
