The Setting
Lakshadweep is a chain of thirty-six coral atolls in the Arabian Sea, two to four hundred kilometres off the Kerala coast. Only ten islands are inhabited and fewer still are open to tourism. Reef snorkelling and lagoon swimming here are widely considered the finest in the Indian Ocean, on par with the Maldives but with a fraction of the visitors and a stricter environmental regime.
Thinnakara is a small uninhabited island in the Agatti atoll, a short boat ride from the main island. The lagoon is shallow, calm and clear, with live coral in good health and visibility that often exceeds twenty metres. The island itself is a slim crescent of white sand and coconut palm, with no permanent settlement beyond the resort.
The Property
Praveg Atolls is a tented Cocoon cottage resort operated by Praveg Limited, a publicly listed Indian hospitality company. The resort sits on the lagoon-facing edge of Thinnakara and offers full board accommodation, return transfers from Agatti airport, and access to reef snorkelling and water sports.
The Cocoon cottages are semi-permanent structures with hard flooring, fixed bathrooms, climate control and the comforts of a hotel room, configured to suit the protected ecology of the islands.
Praveg Atolls is the most accessible Lakshadweep stay program available today. The natural setting is among the finest in the archipelago, with the same reef and lagoon quality as Bangaram or Agatti. The trade-off is footprint: Praveg is built for higher occupancy, while the older Bangaram Island Resort retains a smaller, quieter footprint at a higher price point. We are happy to advise on which property fits your priorities.
Accommodation
The Cocoon cottages come in two configurations:
Sea-facing Cocoons sit at the front of the property with direct lagoon views. Non-sea-facing Cocoons sit slightly inland among the coconut palms, with the lagoon a short walk away. Both share the same internal layout: queen or twin bed configuration, attached bathroom with hot and cold water, climate control and basic amenities.
The pricing on this page is for Non Sea View Cocoons. Sea View rates are available on request and are typically twenty to thirty percent higher.
